Lilly Tellez, senator of the National Action Party (PAN), sent a strong message to the government in turn and assured that the next six-year period, in if someone from the opposition wins, the New Mexico International Airport (NAIM) project will be resumed.
Through her Twitter account, the journalist also indicated that one of the first actions that the opposition will take, although she did not mention that she as a possible President of the Republic, will be to reverse the decree that promulgated the area of Lake Texcoco as a Protected Natural Area in order to make the air hub in the area a reality.
He also indicated that unlike the Felipe Angeles International Airport (AIFA), the project to be rescued will have Canada as the first international destination, because regards the nation in the north of the continent as a “symbol of aspiration” for citizens.
“This decree will be reversed in the next six years. The NAIM will be a reality as soon as we get these leperos out of power. The first flight will be to Canada, as a symbol of the citizens' aspiration for a safe country, with the rule of law, education, health, prosperity and freedom,” he wrote on March 22.
The legislator's words were in response to the tweet published by Jesús Ramírez Cuevas, general coordinator of Social Communication of the Presidency of the Republic, who shared the decree that was published in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF).
Based on the message and images issued by the official of the Fourth Transformation, the decree of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat) will protect the area that covers about 14,000 hectares, which is reflected in direct impact on five municipalities in the State of Mexico.
In addition, it was highlighted that the decree was in response to the need to protect the main “water vessel” of the Valley of Mexico, which benefits more than 15 million inhabitants.

Another reason why the decree was issued, according to Semarnat, is because the care of the area will lead to a reduction of polluting particles in the air, which will increase the ventilation of the conurbate area and regulate the temperature.
In addition, he said that it also seeks to protect more than 678 species of flora and fauna, especially migratory waterbirds, since the area “is an internationally recognized site as an area of importance for the conservation of these species.
“(It is important to protect) biocultural identity by the management and use of spirulina algae, ahuautle, tequesquite and the protection of the axolete”, was read in the decree.

And it is worth remembering that in 2019 President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO), through the then head of the Ministry of Communications and Transport (SCyT), Javier Jiménez Espriú, announced that the construction of NAIM was being canceled.
Construction that had begun in 2014, during the six-year term of former President Enrique Peña Nieto, and which was expected to cost USD 6 billion; however, following a popular consultation, it was decided to eliminate the project.
