Gustavo Bolivar says that it was he who first asked for the recount of votes and not Álvaro Uribe Vélez

“They ask for a recount because they had never lost. Our 50 seats will decide the next Comptroller, the next CNE judges, the new judges of the Constitutional Council. That's why they're nervous. In the end they want to sabotage the presidential elections they have lost” was one of the many trills written yesterday by Senator Gustavo Bolivar, referring to Registrar Vega's request to the National Electoral Council to request a recount of the votes of the Senate.

This request by the National Registrar before the CNE has raised many suspicions that the real author of this recount request was not Vega but the former president, leader of the Democratic Center and who is facing a process for buying witnesses, Álvaro Uribe Vélez.

“These elections leave all mistrust. E 14 full of studs, amendments, signatures that don't match. Added to the inconsistencies is the overwhelming vote on petrianism in drug trafficking areas. This result cannot be accepted”, trine Uribe on March 19, the day before Registrar Vega's application to the Electoral Council.

He said this because with the final count the Historical Pact went on to have 19 seats, three more than in the first result. While the Democratic and Conservative Center, governing parties, and the Centro Esperanza Coalition, of moderate alternative movements, lost one seat each.

This fact has aroused mistrust in opposition sectors, including the same candidate for the Historical Pact Gustavo Petro, who also indicated on his official Twitter account: “I suspend my presence in electoral debates until transparency of the vote is guaranteed. We will act with the utmost prudence and call on international oversight to act promptly. At the moment there is no transparent chain of custody on the votes already counted” and in keeping with his word he missed the debate produced by RCN yesterday.

While the current Senator of Human Colombia, Gustavo Bolívar, pointed out that in the first instance he was the one who made the request to recount votes for irregularities he had witnessed, such as tables in which they had not obtained a single vote.

“Uribe did not ask for the recount of votes. I asked for it first because I think we have 25 seats and the Democratic Center 9. Of course, in public hearing, in front of judges, attorneys and delegates of all parties” Trino Bolívar.

One thing that the opposition and the traditional parties do agree on is that there were many irregularities on the March 13 election day, but while some see these facts as 'human errors' without any intention whatsoever, others are pointing to structural irregularities that must be eradicated as soon as possible and above all to that they do not stain the presidential elections.

Faced with the recount of votes, an elected political scientist and senator, Ariel Ávila spoke of the alleged irregularities that he could present.

One of the warnings that Senator Ávila noted was the custody of the votes: “The ballot bags have been alone since Saturday, kept mainly in municipal or departmental registrars run by registrars belonging to political clans, that is, one could say that there is no chain of custody”, a situation that could arise for an amendment or change of electoral cards.

Another aspect he pointed out was the irregularities of the software, which in too many cases did not present votes for traditional political movements at tables where they had voted for them, and he highlighted: “We have also found irregularities as a female official in Tolima who took the votes for the house, that is, there was no guarantee to open the bags,” said Senator Ariel Ávila.

Another request that is being made is that Alexander Vega be removed from his position as National Registrar, due to the irregularities presented and, above all, to avoid possible fraud in the first and second rounds of the presidential elections.

Since January 16, 2020, a lawsuit has been filed with the Council of State against Alexander Vega for irregularities in his appointment as National Registrar, after two years nothing has happened about this judicial process against Vega.
