The New York stock exchange opened slightly lower on Monday, with the market prudent after closing its best week since the end of 2020 on Friday.
Around 15:00 GMT, the star index, the industrial Dow Jones, lost 0.25%, while the Nasdaq, with its technological component, was down 0.61% and the expanded S&P 500 index - one of the 500 largest companies -, had a marginal decline of 0.06%.
Last week, the Wall Street indices ended up with gains — of 5.50% for the Dow Jones, more than 8% for the Nasdaq and 6% for the S&P 500 — in its best week since November 2020.
Among the values for the day, the conglomerate led by Warren Buffett, Berkshire Hathaway (+1.82%, at $348), announced a project to acquire Alleghany, a specialized insurance holding company, for a total of $11.6 billion.
Alleghany Corp, focused on home insurance and reinsurance, earned 25%, trading its share at $845.
