Former Brazilian President Fernando Henrique Cardoso, 90, was discharged from hospital in Sao Paulo this Saturday after spending a week hospitalized due to a fracture in the femur, his match confirmed.
Cardoso had been admitted to Albert Einstein Israelite Hospital on March 11 and had to undergo surgery.
“The patient is in stable clinical condition and will continue the treatment of the fracture of the femoral neck at home,” according to the medical bulletin quoted by Brazilian media and replicated by the Brazilian Social Democracy Party (PSDB) on its social networks.
A long-time sociologist and one of the founders of PSDB, Cardoso ruled Brazil for two periods, between 1995 and 2002.
Considered a benchmark in the country's politics, he maintained a very critical view of current President Jair Bolsonaro, and expressed his support for the current governor of Sao Paulo and pre-presidential candidate, Joao Doria, for the October election.
In recent months, he made a rapprochement with his historic opponent, former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, whom he said he could vote in an eventual ballot with Bolsonaro.
