Starting tomorrow, Formula 1 faces a new era with the release of technical regulations that changed the aerodynamic appearance of cars by 80 percent and the return of the ground effect after 40 years. The radical modifications have led to the hard work of the teams since 2019, when the changes were announced.
So, the table is set to open a new season on this relatively young circuit, which premiered in 2004, which is 5,412 kilometers long. On Sunday the drivers will have to complete 57 laps. It is a track that has three DRS zones, with few fast corners (15) and with 56% of its route made up of straights.
Saturday's qualifying confirmed the harbingers of the current world champion, the Dutchman Max Verstappen and the seven-time champion, Lewis Hamiltonm who during the training days warned of the Ferrari's speed. “They are fast, you can see clearly, both in the long and short runs,” said the Dutchman last week. “Ferrari seems to be the fastest and maybe Red Bull, then there's us or McLaren, I don't know,” said the Briton.
Monegasque Charles Leclerc was the fastest in the standings and won the first pole of the year. “It feels good. Although the last three years have been difficult, we had high hopes for this new opportunity to be up. I think we've worked hard to be able to find ourselves and be able to fight to be up there. I am very happy with what we have done today. The car feels pretty good,” Leclerc said after his qualifying win.
