
On Thursday, March 17, the 2022 edition of the Pan American Paracycling Championship, which is being held in the municipality of Maringá, Brazil, began.
The para-athletes of the Colombia cycling team had an outstanding performance in the tournament, winning seven medals on the first day: four gold and three silver.
The first gold of the day was won by the duo formed by Javier Serna and Alberto Castañeda, who commanded the national Tandem event, a competition in which both maneuver the same bicycle.
The second gold was won by the boyacense sprinter Carolina Munévar, who finished first in the individual pursuit WC2.
For his part, Eulises León also won the gold medal, in the MC2 Individual pursuit, after finishing first with a recorded time of 4 minutes, and 13,064 seconds.
Alejandro Perea won the last gold of the day. He climbed to the top of the podium, after finishing first in the MC3 Individual Pursuit event.
This is how the Colombian Paralympic Committee (CPC) said on its Twitter account on the night of Thursday, March 17, highlighting what was done in the track and route modalities in Maringá:

With a time of 4 minutes and 31,375 seconds, the paracyclist, Juan José Florian, took second place in the MC1 Individual Pursuit event and won the silver medal
Paula Ossa was second in the WC5 individual pursuit, after recording a time of 4 minutes and 9,710 seconds, thus winning the silver medal.
The last medal of the night went to Joseph Jaramillo, who took second place in the MC4 Individual Pursuit event.

The boyacense paracyclist Carolina Munévar is one of the main cards of the Colombian team for the medal contest in the Pan American Championship.
Munévar, a native of Cucaita, has been multiple medallist in events of this kind and will be one of the main cards of the Colombian team for the medal dispute in the track and route events of this competition, which awards points in the UCI ranking for the Parapan American Games in Santiago de Chile in 2023 and the Games Paralympics in Paris in 2024.
He will also compete in the 500 meters, individual pursuit and scratch tests on the track, as well as the time trial and grand fund en route, in the C2 category.
The competition of sports on wheels in Brazilian territory will run until Sunday, March 20. The last competitions will be the time trial and road competitions, which will take place on March 19 and 20, respectively, from 6 a.m. to 12 p.m. Colombian time.
