A small US military plane with four crew members participating in NATO maneuvers in Norway was declared missing on Friday, the authorities of the Scandinavian country reported.
The US OSPREY aircraft “was declared missing at 8H26 (17H26 GMT) in the south of Bodø” (north), the Northern Norwegian Rescue Services (HRS) said in a statement, which points to the poor weather conditions in the area at that time.
The four crew members participated in the Cold Reponse exercise, which mobilized 200 North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) aircraft and some 50 ships.
The statement adds that at 9:17pm, a place with the possible presence of the device was identified from the air, but that “it was not possible to approach, due to weather conditions”.
“We are not in that place and therefore do not know anything about the four people who were on board. But we know that this is an accident site,” HRS spokesman Jan Eskil Severinsen told Norwegian public television.
