The Attorney General of the Nation, Margarita Cabello Blanco, sent a concept to maintain the rule to the Constitutional Court, which states that the extension of the validity of driving licenses for two years, counted as of December 31, 2021.
In addition, he specified that the approval of the norm, contained in Law 2161 of 2021, which established measures to promote the acquisition, renewal and non-evasion of the Compulsory Traffic Accident Insurance System (SOAT), “originated from the intention of congressmen to seek an intermediate formula between the benefits for the citizens and the sustainability of Soat”.
So, people will have additional time to issue their driver's license to traffic agencies. The extension sheltered people whose license expired between January 1 and 31, 2022, who have a period of two years to be able to carry out the renewal process, that is, until December 31, 2023.
A driver's license is an essential document when driving a vehicle. To acquire it, you must meet certain requirements and, in turn, some costs depending on the type of pass you want to have.
The Integral Mobility Service (SIM) establishes that in order to apply for the license it is necessary to present the identity document, citizenship card or password, which certifies that you are over 18 years of age. If you are a minor, you must be at least 16 years old and the procedure must be carried out in the company of a responsible adult presenting the identity card.
The applicant must have three prior documents to apply for the driving licence:
- The certificate of driving aptitude, that is, the document that ensures that you passed the driving course, which is issued by the Automobile Education Center (CEA).
- The certificate of physical, mental and motor coordination examination for driving, which is given by the Driver Recognition Center. This document must be endorsed by the Ministry of Transport and the Single National Traffic Register (RUNT).
- Registration and peace and except for traffic violations or fines in the RUNT. In the event that you do not have any irregularities, you must pay the sum of $15,800 for this document.
It should be remembered that those who wish to acquire a license must bear the costs of the exams and the driving course, which vary according to the type of driving licence they wish to acquire. Both must be carried out in centers authorized by the Ministry of Transport.
The Ministry of Transport stipulated that the driver's license is valid according to the age of the applicant. The value of the renovation is $280,000 for vehicles and $350,000 for motorcycles. In the case of type C1 licenses, the validity is three years.
The permit lasts 10 years for private vehicles, except for persons between 60 and 79 years old, who must renew it every two years, while those over 80 years old must do so every year. In the case of type C1 licenses, the validity is three years.
It should be remembered that the medical examination must also be renewed. Both procedures must be carried out in a Recognition Center.
