Dmitri Rogozin, head of the Russian Space Agency (Roscosmos), regretted the suspension of the Russian-European ExoMars mission announced on Thursday by the European Space Agency (ESA) and said it was linked to the attack on Ukraine.
“This is a very bitter fact for all space lovers,” Rogozin told Telegram. The ExoMars mission planned the launch of the ESA rover towards Mars in September with the help of the Russian shuttle and landing structures.
“I'm so sorry.” He said it.
At the same time, Rogozin wanted to be optimistic that “in a few years” Russia could cope with its task on its own.
“Yes, it's going to take years (...). However, we will be able to carry out this fact-finding mission alone at the new launch point at the Vostochny space base,” he said.
ESA confirms the suspension of the Russian-European Exo-Mars mission and is looking for alternatives to carry out four more missions after the Ukrainian conflict ended cooperation with the Russian space agency Roscosmos, according to a statement released on Thursday.
