Ron Jeremy, the disgraced star of the porn industry, will have to undergo psychiatric examinations before his trial for the sexual assaults of 21 women, justice determined this Thursday.
Jeremy, who appeared in more than 1,700 adult films, has been the center of criminal charges for years.
He was initially charged in January 2020. The Prosecutor's Office added another series of lawsuits against him for crimes that had been committed over several decades of his career.
But at a hearing this Thursday in Los Angeles, Judge George G. Lomeli said the 69-year-old actor will have to pass psychiatric examinations.
The decision was announced after one of Jeremy's lawyers, Stuart Goldfarb, said that he had visited his client in a cell before the hearing and that Jeremy had not been able to recognize him.
The results of the exams will be reviewed by the court on April 19.
The actor, who remains in custody, has pleaded “not guilty” on social media and has denied committing the charges of which he is accused. The American could spend the rest of his life in prison if he is sentenced for these crimes.
Jeremy, whose real name is Ronald Jeremy Hyatt, appeared in famous adult films such as “Deep Throat II” and “John Wayne Bobbitt Uncut”.
With his characteristic mustache, he was one of the most recognized stars in the porn industry, although in recent years he had been banned among allegations of abuse against him.
In June 2020, Goldfarb denied all the allegations and insisted that his client “was not a rapist.”
“Ron, over the years, for who he is, has practically been the lover of more than 4,000 women. And to claim that he is a rapist is to go further... I mean, women are throwing themselves at him,” said the lawyer.
