Malaga (Spain), Bologna (Italy), Glasgow (United Kingdom) and Hamburg (Germany) will host the group stage of the 2022 Davis Cup finals from 14-18 September, announced Thursday by the International Tennis Federation (ITF).
Each of these four cities will host a group, with its national team and three other formations, which will be decided in a draw in London on March 31 at 14:00 GMT.
Canada, eliminated in March in the qualifying round, received an invitation to be part of the finals.
This invitation was initially intended for Serbia, but Novak Djokovic's team took the place originally destined for Russia (current champion), which was excluded from the competition due to the invasion of Ukraine.
The 16 teams that will play the group stage are therefore Croatia (last year's finalist), Serbia, Great Britain (guest), Canada (guest), Germany, Argentina, Australia, Belgium, South Korea, Spain, United States, France, Italy, Kazakhstan, Holland and Sweden.
The first two of each group will enter the quarterfinals.
The quarterfinals, semifinals and finals will be held from November 23 to 27, at a venue to be designated. “It could be Abu Dhabi,” said the president of the French Tennis Federation (FTT), Gilles Moretton.
