
In his speech this afternoon to the Congress of the Republic, the President Pedro Castillo said that the Executive Branch will send to the Legislature the bill that will allow free entry to universities.
In a presidential message, which lasted more than an hour, the head of state detailed what will be the next actions in education that his Government will carry out in the context of the most important and immediate challenges.
“I announce that, in the near future, we will forward to the Congress of the Republic the bill on free admission to university,” he said during his participation during the plenary session of the Parliament.
First, he announced that 220 million soles will be transferred to public universities to increase the academic offer of undergraduate degrees, the implementation of university connectivity centers and the bonus for research professors.
It also determined that 249 million soles will be allocated to benefit more than 25,000 students, through the different types of scholarships. In addition, he said that the Continuity Scholarship for Higher Education Studies will have a new call this year, for the award of up to 12,000 special scholarships at the undergraduate level.
BASIC EDUCATION
At another time, he recalled that classes began yesterday in 18 regions of the country and that on Monday, March 21, students from two other regions will return, while on March 28 they will return to five other regions. This fulfills the commitment to return to face-to-face status for 100% of the country's students.
He also announced the reactivation of educational television, through the satellite signal, which will serve teachers and students from 2,000 educational institutions in the most remote rural areas.
Tablets will continue to be delivered to more than 319,000 beneficiaries, including students and teachers, and the timely delivery of educational materials in 41 native languages will be ensured.
Finally, he said that during 2022 the salary floor of appointed and hired teachers will be increased, whose monthly basic remuneration will be 2,600 soles.
POLITICAL REFORMS
At another point in his speech, the president of Peru reported that a set of reforms will be sent to Congress to overcome the current crisis in the State. Likewise, the president announced that he will convene the National Accord as an instance aimed at reaching agreements between institutions.
Castillo Terrones explained that the constant political crises are suffered by citizens, so “we cannot be indifferent to it”. “As President of the Republic, I extend my hand to build bridges, promote dialogue and work for the country agenda,” commented the head of state.
“We have a responsibility to undertake the great reform of the State. We cannot continue to be indifferent to this, because it is the ordinary population that suffers the consequences. As President of the Republic, I pledge to lead this process. That is why, in the near future, we will send to Congress a set of reforms that will allow us to overcome this structural crisis,” he told the plenary session.
In that regard, he noted that such initiatives will be developed with the participation of the authorities, autonomous constitutional bodies and citizens.
“Reforms to be carried out with the participation of the powers of the State, the autonomous constitutional bodies and citizens. In this regard, I announce the convening of the national agreement, a representative and plural body, which will allow us to achieve the necessary consensus”, he said.
“I call on Peruvian women to the strongest and broadest unity, let us have faith and confidence in the future of the country,” he added.
