This morning there was a landslide caused by heavy rain on the hills of La Esperanza, which fell on the Retamas settlement center located in the district of Parcoy (La Libertad).
The first report talks about missing persons, including three minors, and 60 to 80 houses that would have been buried by landslides.
In a message to the Congress of the Republic, the head of state expressed solidarity with affected families.
Eight people rescued
Defense Minister José Gavidia reported that rescue measures were taken in a landslide in the province of Pataz in the La Libertad region and that eight people were safely rescued.
Gavidia stressed that rescue efforts are intensifying in the region because about 15 people have been declared missing.
“We are stepping up our rescue efforts, eight people have already been rescued unharmed and we have one injured person who is being treated at a medical center and will be evacuated tomorrow.” He told the press in the area of La Libertad.
The Minister of Defense has already stressed that a rescue team of 40 people is working on it, including firefighters, mining personnel and rescue police in the disaster area.
“We are working in two groups and we will be there all night,” said the head of the defense portfolio. We are preparing struts that will continue to move forward and make progress in removing debris.
He added that since 15 houses were buried after this natural disaster, the population is being evicted from other neighboring houses that are at risk because a new landslide is likely to occur.
Help arrived
Alegre Fonseca, the new president of the Health Social Security (Essalud), today fired the health brigade of the Peruvian hospital, which will treat people affected by the emergency that occurred in the Retamas settlement center in the Parcoy district in the province of Pataz-Liberteña, buried dozens of houses.
He stated that the response team consists of 20 people, including doctors, nurses, medical technicians and nursing technicians, and will provide free medical services to insured and uninsured populations affected by landslides.
“In collaboration with Minsa, we are joining forces to provide appropriate care to those affected by the emergency of Retamas. This is the health brigade of the Peruvian hospital, which will stay for a week and is carrying the necessary medications.” The head of social security reported.
In the health brigade, the presence of trauma and dermatologists draws attention to possible injuries, fractures and skin problems caused by the collapse of part of the hill.
