This morning there was a landslide, resulting from heavy rains, on one part, of La Esperanza hill, which fell on the Retamas settlement center, located in the district of Parcoy (La Libertad).
The first reports speak of missing persons, including three minors, in addition to between 60 and 80 homes that would have ended up buried by the landslide.
During his message to the Congress of the Republic, the head of State expressed his solidarity with the families affected.
EIGHT PEOPLE RESCUED
Defense Minister José Gavidia took stock of the rescue actions following a landslide in the province of Pataz, La Libertad region, and reported that eight people were rescued unharmed.
Gavidia stressed that approximately 15 people have been declared missing, which is why rescue efforts are intensified in the area.
“We are intensifying the rescue efforts and eight people have already been rescued unharmed and we have one injured person who is being treated at the medical center and will probably be evacuated tomorrow,” he told the press from the La Libertad region.
The Minister of Defense emphasized that a rescue team of 40 people is being worked on, including firefighters, mine personnel and rescue police, who are already in the disaster area.
“We are working in two groups and we are going to be there all night, we have been preparing the struts to continue moving forward and progress in clearing debris,” stressed the head of the Defence portfolio.
He added that, after this natural disaster, 15 houses have been buried, which is why the population is being evicted from the other neighboring houses that are in danger, as there are likely to be new landslides.
