Two out of three Swedish Olympians eat more veggies
Swedish Olympians eat more veggies than ever. Since Swedish Olympic Committee and WWF [World Wildlife Fund] started the project “World Class Veggies” three years ago, two out of three Swedish Olympians say they eat more vegetarian dishes.
SOC and WWF have asked 165 Swedish Olympians who have competed in Summer or Winter Olympic Games since Turin 2006 about their eating habits. 90 per cent say they are eating vegetarian food and more than half of the Olympians claim that they often or always eats like a vegetarian. About 75 per cent claim they would eat even more vegetarian food, but feel they lack in knowledge about how to construct a suitable dish with all the nutrition they need.
To help with that aspect SOC and WWF have made five half-hour movies about vegetarian food and training. The five programs will focus on health, protein, energy, carbs and supplements.
“WWF and SOC wants to show that it is possible to eat heathier food and still be a world class performer,” says SOC nutritionist Linda Bakkman.
The project with WWF has already produced a cookbook “Vego i världsklass” (World Class Veggies) and Swedish gold medalists like Charlotte Kalla, Hanna Oeberg, André Myhrer and Max Salminen are ambassadors of the joint project.
