The Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) was made aware of unacceptable behaviour by Australian Olympic Team members on a return flight to Australia. The AOC took immediate action, convening a meeting of the CEOs of the sports that had representatives on the flight.
The CEOs were advised by AOC CEO Matt Carroll of the issues and asked to immediately deal with the any behavioural issues of their players and officials.
AOC Chief Executive Officer Matt Carroll says that he has received reports back from the CEOs and both Rugby and Football have indicated they will be investigating reports of unacceptable behaviour on the flight into Sydney on July 30th.
Mr Carroll says there were a number of sports on the flight but the two football codes have advised him that they are taking full responsibility for their players.
“While there has been no formal complaint from the airline, unacceptable behaviour was brought to our attention and I directly raised the issue with our member sports CEOs.
“It’s extremely disappointing but both Rugby and Football have told me that such behaviour is certainly not acceptable within their sports and have sincerely apologised to the Australian Olympic Team. The CEOs have undertaken to take the appropriate action and report back to us,” Mr Carroll concluded.
