(ATR) Toyota will serve as a Presenting Partner for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Torch Relay.
The Tokyo Organizing Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games announced the agreement with Toyota on Friday.
A Presenting Partner is the highest of three tiers in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Torch Relay partnership program. The status gives Toyota the right to recruit torchbearers and conduct promotional activities using the Olympic Torch relay emblem.
"Through the Olympic Torch Relay, we would like to deliver hope and further connect, deepening our relationship both with the people here in Japan and people all over the world, and contribute to the Olympic spirit and mood with all of our Toyota team members," Toyota Motor President Akio Toyoda said in a statement.
Toyota, an IOC TOP sponsor, is also an official mobility partner for Tokyo 2020 and will be providing the lead car for the Torch Relay.
"The Relay team of runners and staff will travel across the whole of Japan for a total of 121 days," Yoshiro Mori, President of Tokyo 2020 said in a statement.
"Toyota’s support as both a Presenting Partner and a Mobility Partner will ensure that the relay participants proceed safely, securely, and comfortably as well as have fun."
Toyota became the official worldwide mobility partner of the IOC and IPC in 2015 for the 2017-2024 period.
Coca-Cola Japan and Ajinomoto Expand Tokyo 2020 Sponsorship
Tokyo 2020 organizers announced this week that two existing sponsors have expanded their agreements to include a newly created business category.
Coca-Cola Japan and Ajinomoto will now be sponsors in the "Coffee Beans and Instant Coffee Powder/Granules" category. The agreement is limited to Japan.
Coca-Cola is a member of the IOC'sTOP sponsor program. Ajinomoto, a Japanese food and chemical company, has second tier sponsorship status in Tokyo 2020's domestic partner program.
