(ATR)POCOG is celebrating the official opening of the the 2018 Olympic alpine ski venue, which will host critical test events next month.
The International Ski Federation (FIS) is staging the 2016 AUDI Ski World Cup men's races at theJeongseon Alpine Center, Feb. 6-7.
Competition willmark the first in a series of 28 test events for the 2018 Winter Olympic Games.
On Friday, the list of sports leaders who participated in "welcome day" festivities at the Jeongseon Alpine Center included: POCOG presidentYang-Ho Cho;South Korean sports minister Kim Jong-deok; Korea Ski Association president Shin Dong-bin; and FIS technical expert Guenter Hujara.
"Things are looking great on the slope," Hujara told Around the Rings earlier this week.
Hujara said safety preparations are making good progress, transportation and accommodation are in order and necessary infrastructure is in place for the FIS World Cup events next month.
"Enough good prepared snow on the race course. We already could ride the gondola for our first slope inspection. It's running," he added.
In a statement released on Friday, Hujara said, "I highly respect the tremendous efforts of the organizers, especially over the past two months. Achievements in this period have been remarkable and I have no doubt that athletes will enjoy the excellent course here at Jeongseon."
Cho echoed Hujara's sentiments. "I am extremely happy to hear the positive snow control results."
"We were able to overcome challenges through teamwork within POCOG and with our partners, and I appreciate the dedication of everyone. We will concentrate on successful World Cup competitions next month and preparations for the Games in 2018."
TheJeongseon Alpine Center will host Olympic alpine skiing events in 2018.
