Laura Flessel-Colovic, double Olympic fencing champion (épée) and five-time Olympic medallist, has been appointed the new French Minister of Sport in the Government of newly-named Prime Minister Edouard Philippe, following the inauguration of President Emmanuel Macron at the weekend. The flag bearer for France at the London 2012 Olympic Games is a member of the Paris 2024 Athletes’ Committee and played an integral role in this week’s IOC Evaluation Commission visit to Paris.
Paris 2024 Co-Chairs, Tony Estanguet and Bernard Lapasset, said of the appointment:
"On behalf of the Paris 2024 Bid Committee, we would like to congratulate Laura Flessel-Colovic on her appointment as Sports Minister in the government of Edouard Philippe. This appointment confirms the central role athletes play in the governance of sport in France. We look forward to continuing the work that has been going on for nearly two years with Laura Flessel-Colovic, as we look ahead to the IOC decision on the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Lima on 13 September."
