(ATR) Preparations for Tokyo 2020 are on track, but with challenges, International Paralympic Committee President Andrew Parsons tells Around the Rings.
"The main issue we have in this moment in time is the accessible accommodation because of legislation in Japan."
Parsons spoke about Tokyo preparations in the latest edition of ATRadio with Editor Ed Hula.
"The good news is legislation in Japan will change as the legacy of the games."
The Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games will hit the one year to go mark on August 25th.
Parsons says he is looking forward to the return of Russian athletes to the 2020 Paralympics. The IPC excluded them from Rio as a result of the doping scandal that grew out of the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics.
"We believe the Russian Paralympic Committee will comply with all the established criteria as they did throughout this process."
Regarding the bids from Milan and and Stockholm for the 2026 Olympics and Paralympics, Parsons says both cities are qualified. But due to his status as a voting IOC member he can’t name a favorite.
"Of course I’m still gathering a lot of information, and trying to make the best decision for in this case as IOC member not only the Paralympic movement but also the Olympic movement ".
