Six Months to Paralympics
Wednesday marks six months to go until the opening of the London 2012 Paralympics as well as the deadline to nominate a torchbearer for the Paralympic torch relay.
To nominate someone, email no more than 300 words to torchrelay@paralympic.org explaining why the candidate is worthy of involvement.
World Champs for Biathlon
Biathlon’s world championships begin Wednesday in Ruhpolding, Germany and run through March 11.
First up on Thursday is the mixed team relay event, added last year to the Winter Olympic program ahead of Sochi 2014. Men’s and women’s sprints follow Saturday with pursuit events on Sunday.
2018 YOG Bids Due
Bids for the 2018 Youth Olympic Games are due to IOC headquarters by Thursday.
Buenos Aires, Argentina; Glasgow, Scotland; Guadalajara, Mexico and Dagestan, Russia are the expected candidates so far.
Mali Welcomes CISA
Upwards of 400 sports administrators, journalists and IOC members will gather this week in Bamako, Mali for the 6th Africa International Sports Convention.
CISA sessions run Thursday through Saturday.
IFAB Meets
The introduction of goal-line technology in football could move a step closer to reality this week, and so too could a fourth sub in extra time.
Both are among the agenda items for a March 3 meeting of the International Football Association Board in Surrey, England.
The rule-making panel is set to receive results from a first testing phase of goal-line systems and will also hear an update on the additional assistant referees experiment and a presentation from FIFA vice president Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein about the traditional Islamic hijab headscarf.
