FIFA World Cup
Ten months to go until the Brazil 2014 World Cup.
Brazil will stage the event as well as the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
This week, FIFA secretary general Jerome Valcke visits three host cities in preparation for the tournament. It's his first visit to Brazil since the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup.
Valcke will visit São Paulo andCuritiba today. Hishost tour will finish in Manaus on Tuesday. Valcke and a delegation including sport ministerAldo Rebelowill attend the local organizing committee board meeting on August 22 in Rio.
The first phase of World Cup ticket sales starts on Tuesday.
Oscar Pistorius on Trial
South African Paralympic sprinter Oscar Pistorius will return to court today. Prosecutors have completed their investigation into Reeva Steenkamp's murder and will hand Pistorius an indictment containing a full list of charges.
The first phase of the Pistorius trial will begin in March of 2014.
Asian Youth Games
The second Asian Youth Games continue in Nanjing, China through August 24.
Singapore hosted the inaugural edition in 2009 in preparation for the Youth Olympic Games. This year the event will attract athletes from45 Asian nations. Competition will feature 118 events in diving, swimming, football, handball, badminton, table tennis and weightlifting.
Nanjing will also host the 2014 Youth Olympic Games.
ICF World Cup Final
The International Canoe Federation's Canoe Slalom World Cup Final will take place in Bratislava, Slovakia.
Competition begins August 23 and ends August 25.
IOC News
The fifth Coordination Commission for the 2016 Rio Olympics will be held September 1 through September 2.
The IOC Executive Board will meet September 4 through September 5 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Buenos Aires will also host the 125th IOC Session, which begins on September 7.
