Pierce O'Callaghan, Baku 2015 director of sport, spoke with Around the Rings on Friday andpreviewed the final days leading up to the inaugural European Games.
"The official opening of the athletes' village is on Monday," O'Callaghan said.
"And on Tuesday, the training venues for most of the sports happening in the first week will open up.
"And then it becomes very real."
Over the course of 16 days, Baku 2015 organizers say some 7,000 athletes from 50 NOCs will compete in 20 sports.
2022 Bid Cities Present to IOC
The IOC Executive Board, as well as representatives from Almaty 2022 and Beijing 2022, are meeting in Lausanne this week.
On June 9, bid teams from Almaty and Beijing will present their updated proposals for the 2022 Winter Olympics to the IOC Executive Board.
Around the Rings editor Ed Hula, ATR publisher Sheila Scott Hula, ATR European editor Mark Bisson and ATR director of business development Ed Hula III will be in Lausanne for the IOC EB meeting.
Tokyo 2020 Executive Board
The organizing committee of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics will hold an executive board meeting on June 12.
The meeting will take place at theToranomon Hills Mori Tower in Tokyo.
Media are invited to attend the opening remarks of the meeting.
FIFA Women's World Cup
The 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup is underway in Canada.
The top three teams from the Union of European Football Associations will qualify to compete at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.
Twenty-four teams from six confederations are competing in 52 matches at the FIFA Women's World Cup this year.
Edmonton, Moncton, Montreal, Ottawa, Vancouver and Winnipeg will host matches. Competition ends on July 5.
Athletics Diamond League in Oslo, New York
The International Association of Athletics Federations is hosting the next meet of the 2015 Diamond League season on June 11 in Oslo, Norway.
Competition will take place at Bislett Stadion.
The sixth meet of the 2015 Diamond League season is slated for New York on June 13.
Modern Pentathlon World Cup Final
The International Modern Pentathlon Union is hosting the 2015 World Cup final, June 11-14, in Minsk, Belarus.
The event follows theInternational Open Championships which took place in Barcelona, June 6-7.
Southeast Asian Games
The 28th Southeast Asian Games are underway in Singapore.Some 7,000 athletes from 11 countries will participate in the Games.
Competition ends on June 16.
