(ATR) International Equestrian Federation president Ingmar De Vos says having Paris and Los Angeles host the Olympics is a dream come true for his sport.
"I would say we couldn’t have a greater dream to have Paris 24 and LA 28 for equestrian sport," De Vos tells Around the Rings on the latest edition of ATRadio. "These are two countries with fantastic histories in equestrian, with also many athletes and Olympic medalists in equestrian."
De Vos is one of eight International Federation and National Olympic Committee leaders to be elected to join the International Olympic Committee at the Session that concluded Sept. 15 in Lima, Peru. He says his election is a reflection of the positive steps taken by the FEI, including the implementation of Olympic Agenda 2020 reforms.
"It’s an honor and I’m very proud and happy especially because it is recognition for my community, for the FEI," he says. "I believe for what we’ve done over the recent years especially in the field of embracing Olympic Agenda 2020 and also our efforts for good governance.
"It has been the catalyst for many reforms. It was for us, particularly in regards to our position in the Olympic program, a kind of a wake-up call for how we can start to thinking about how we can attract broader audiences - to start using these modern social and digital media and also increasing the number of likes."
