(ATR) A Spanish Coca-Cola veteran executive will serve as the company`s new chief marketing officer.
On Thursday, the beverage giant announced Marcos de Quinto will replace Joe Tripodi, who is retiring as chief marketing and commercial officer.
De Quinto is the president of the Iberia Business Unit and vice president, Europe Group, having held that position since 2000 after several other positions around the world with Coca-Cola. Tripodi is retiring at the end of February 2015, and de Quinto will take over starting January 1.
"During his tenure, Joe has successfully led our company's worldwide marketing and commercial organization, and played a vital role in building and leveraging our marketing capabilities and talent around the globe," said Muhtar Kent, chairman and CEO of Coca-Cola, in a statement announcing the change.
A worldwide Olympic sponsor, Coca-Cola has one of the most visible and active Olympic marketing campaigns. As CMO, de Quinto will play a leading role in shaping the activation of the sponsorship. Included in Coca-Cola’s Olympic activities is the torch relay.
Coca-Cola is also one of the leading partners for FIFA. The world football rankings are known officially as the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking.
In 2013, Coca-Cola was named the Cannes Lions Creative Marketer of the Year and was one of Fast Company magazine's Top 15 Most Innovative Companies in the World.
"Over his tenure with Coca-Cola, Marcos has been known for his ardent passion for our brands, our business and our system, as well as his strategic capabilities," Kent added. "Although Marcos' DNA is that of a marketer, he has held a number of leadership roles throughout his career and he will bring a global view with strong operational experience to this key role. Through Marcos' leadership, the Iberia Business Unit has become one of our best marketing centers of excellence worldwide."
Tripodi joined Coca-Cola in 2007.
