(ATR) Sergey Bubka was re-elected Tuesday for a third four-year term.
Unopposed for the position, he received 108 votes. Only one delegate was against his re-election at the NOC’s 29th general assembly in Kiev.
"I am humbled and honored," the IOC Executive Board member said in a statement.
"I am very thankful to the Olympic Movement in Ukraine for the trust they put in me. A lot has been achieved in the past years and Ukraine NOC committed to further developing Olympic sports and help Ukrainian athletes successfully compete on the international level."
Bubka, an IAAF vice president, pledged to strengthen youth involvement in sport and to build on sport as a means to promote Olympic values in Ukraine.
European Olympic Committees president Patrick Hickey attended the assembly and congratulated Bubka on his re-election.
"I have followed Bubka’s career for years and have always been impressed with his clear vision and ability to achieve success in the most difficult circumstances," he said. "I am confident that he will continue effectively lead the country’s Olympic movement during this difficult time for Ukraine."
As head of the Ukraine NOC since 2005, Bubka is credited with transforming the organization. NOC staff are based in all of the country’s regions with each regional office taking responsibility for delivering an array of programs designed to bring young people into sport and promote the Olympic Movement.
Among Bubka’s achievements are introduction of the country’s National Olympic Day; the Olympic Stork, which provides Olympic-themed education to more than 250,000 schools across the country; a televised annual sports awards and an Olympic Academy.
Former boxing heavyweight world champion Vitali Klitschko was re-elected vice president of Ukraine's NOC on Tuesday as well.
