The fourth edition of ‘Raise The Bar Together’ is underway from 13 July to 1 September.
The Online World Cup Series, presented by BIGSER, was launched by World Para Powerlifting in April to give athletes an opportunity to remain focused and motivated while staying home due to the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown.
The submission deadline for the fourth edition is on 9 August. Athletes should submit up to three videos of lift attempts that will be ranked by their AH score.
The last edition, in June, established a new record number of athletes with 55 powerlifters from 17 countries participating in the competition. This included first-timers from Algeria, Argentina, Bahrain, Chile and Estonia.
"It’s great to see the Para powerlifting community around the world active during this time," said Jorge Moreno, Head of World Para Powerlifting. "From the athletes and coaches to technical officials, they are connected through these competitions."
Kazakhstan’s David Degtyarev and Russia’s Vera Muratova won the men’s and women’s categories. Italian teammates Paolo Agosti and Matteo Cattini are tied as the overall series leaders in the men’s category with 150.5 points each. Muratova is the current women’s overall series leader with 193.5 points.
The overall series winner will receive a bar, courtesy of World Para Powerlifting official partner, Eleiko.
The fourth edition will also see a Team Competition where athletes will earn points for their country, as well as bonus Series points for newly participating athletes and those who submit early. More information about the competition and specific rules is available on the World Para Powerlifting website https://www.paralympic.org/powerlifting/events
Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the Para powerlifting World Cups in Bogota, Colombia; and Dubai, UAE, scheduled for March and April, respectively, were cancelled.
DRAFT AND FANTASY GAME
The Online World Cup also includes a virtual competition with four captains drafting a team of two female and two male powerlifters. The teams’ points are made up of each athlete's individual performance.
There is also a Fantasy Team Game open to Para powerlifting fans. The public can create their own team selecting four athletes and compare their results with the captains of the Team Events.
