The Global Esports Federation announced the staging of the #worldconnected series 2021 (#wcs21), following the successful inaugural edition in December 2020. The first events of this year’s #wcs21 will be held from March 26, 2021, with top matches streamed live on the GEF’s Twitch channel on April 10-11, 2021. In addition to the community-based #worldconnected series events, the GEF will be hosting the second edition of GEFcon – the Global Esports convention, on April 9, 2021.
"The success of the #wcs20 last December demonstrates the focus of the Global Esports Federation and our Member Federations’ commitment to foster a strong and diverse esports community worldwide," said Kelvin Tan, Director of Esports, Global Esports Federation. "The #wcs21 is the first of a series of community events to be held throughout this year. We look forward to greater involvement from the global community and invite even more esports players and spectators to join in this global celebration of esports."
The #worldconnected series is a community initiative inspired by the Global Esports Federation’s values of equality, fair play, diversity, inclusion, and innovation. The GEFcon, meanwhile, provides a powerful platform to engage the conversation around esports with the wider community.
In 2020, the inaugural edition of #wcs20 was successfully staged with participation from 75 countries and territories across seven regions of the world. The event attracted close to 5,000 esports players competing in 11 titles, drawing over 530,000 spectators online and over 2.2 million across social media.
