(ATR) Denis Oswald handed the presidency of the World Rowing Federation (FISA) to Jean-Christophe Rolland Saturday.
At a ceremonial dinner in Lucerne, the former president gave the new president a "key" to the federation, marking the transition.
Oswald had been president of FISA since 1989.
"I would like to say that we are very lucky in FISA," Jean-Christophe Rolland said at the event.
Rolland has been serving as FISA president-elect since September 2013 with a ten-month grace period serving as a transfer of knowledge between the two men.
"If we do have debates and discussions, it is never linked with any personal interests, but always for the good of rowing and the rowers. You always put the interests of the athletes first and at the heart of discussions."
Rolland had been chair of the FISA athletes commission since 2002, having served on the body continuously since 1994.
