The 2016 Peace and Sport Forum will be held in Monaco from 23-25 November. As in 2015, the first major event to mark this occasion will be the Peace Walk, leaving from the Monte-Carlo Terrasses de l’Opéra on Wednesday 23/11 at 5.30pm.
In the presence of H.S.H Prince Albert II of Monaco, many Champions for Peace including Dan Luger, Paula Radcliffe, Marc Raquil, Helena Sukova, Pernilla Wiberg, Surya Bonaly, Philippe Gilbert, Tatiana Golovin, Imanol Harinordoquy, Wilson Kipketer, Yelena Isinbaeva and Tegla Loroupe, plus many other dignitaries from the worlds of sport and politics, such as Pal Schmitt and Nobel Peace prize-winners, will join together in a symbolic message of peace just before the official opening of the forum.
"This walk is a strongly symbolic time which has an effect on us all. I have an amazing memory of last year, when many famous champions such as Sergei Bubka and Chris Froome accompanied Prince Albert. Many other sports celebrities also joined the crowd to give a strong and united message" said Joel Bouzou, President of Peace and Sport.
This year, more than 500 sports personalities, politicians and academics join forces with leaders from the private sector and civil society over three days to discuss the ability of sport’s capacity to build sustainable peace and train agents for change, committed to act for a better, more just and more united world.
With the main theme 'Game on for Peace: Changing the World through Sport', this year’s Forum will take place in a global context where peace seems in decline: widespread violence and extremist acts threaten the stability of our societies at all levels, and the most vulnerable are often the hardest hit.
