The Park City Chamber of Commerce / Convention and Visitors Bureau (Chamber/Bureau) today announces it has signed the Utah Compact on Racial Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion. The compact, a declaration of actions and principles to advance equal opportunity, was launched by racial equity leaders across the state on December 15, 2020 and is encouraging business and community participation to create alignment on efforts.
"As a leader in the community, we are committed to being an advocate for social justice," says Chamber/Bureau President and CEO, Jennifer Wesselhoff. "Our motivation is to protect those who are unprotected and it is imperative to unite with the greater Utah effort to combat racism."
Businesses that pledge to sign the compact are joining an action plan to evaluate where inequalities exist and implement solutions to disbar racism. The Chamber/Bureau encourages businesses in Summit County to add their voice to the conversation.
"Everything we do as a County government is more successful if we include everyone in our community, especially making sure that all viewpoints and experiences are included," notes Tom Fisher, Summit County Manager. "We have started our work through our employees and our employment practices by focusing on diversity and implicit bias. As we have success with our own organization, we expect to extend our efforts to our community in order to have influence beyond ourselves."
The five principles and actions within the compact include Acknowledgment and Action; Investment; Public Policies and Listening; Engagement; and Movement, Not Moment. The declaration states that "all Utahns must have a truly equal opportunity to prosper, and that economic inclusion is essential to creating these opportunities."
