RICHMOND, Va., May 1, 2015 – Richmond 2015, the organizer of the 2015 UCI Road World Championships, today announces that the awards ceremony for each of the 12 world championships during cycling’s pinnacle event will take place inside the event’s FanFest at the Greater Richmond Convention Center in Richmond, Va.
Moving the awards ceremonies inside the FanFest will give the public an up-close experience to celebrate the historic moment when each new world champion receives the iconic rainbow jersey on the podium.
"Our goal is to create an engaging and fan-centric World Championships by integrating American concepts into the event," said Tim Miller, Chief Operating Officer of Richmond 2015. "The FanFest will be an exciting hub, featuring entertainment, kids activities, food and beverage, exhibitors and of course, the daily awards ceremony. Having the awards in this environment will provide fans with unprecedented access to the ceremony."
In addition to hosting the daily awards ceremony, the FanFest will be the scene of cutting-edge, interactive exhibitors from around the world, a beer garden and live entertainment. It is expected to be a central gathering place for the public during the 2015 UCI Road World Championships.
Richmond 2015 also announces that registration for vendors to be a part of the FanFest is now open. Cycling-industry vendors and exhibits will be mixed with local, regional, national and international vendors to provide a complementary experience for cycling fans. There will also be Virginia-themed vendors showcasing their products to the world.
"With hundreds of thousands of expected on-site spectators from the Richmond region and across the globe over the nine days of racing, this is a wonderful opportunity for vendors to introduce themselves to cycling fans and casual onlookers from around the world," Miller said.
CarMax will be hosting an interactive "KidZone" in the FanFest designed to engage families and kids of all ages.
"CarMax is thrilled to bring the ‘KidZone’ to the Richmond 2015 FanFest," said Tom Reedy, CarMax Chief Financial Officer and Richmond 2015 Board Member. "With our commitment to children’s healthy living, this is the perfect opportunity to provide a space that encourages families in our hometown and from around the world to be active in a fun way."
