Rabat, Morocco – 13 April 2018
Morocco 2026 is pleased to announce that former Brazil star, Roberto Carlos, has today joined the Moroccan FIFA World Cup bid as an ambassador.
Carlos, who enjoyed an illustrious and successful career, will lend his influential voice to Morocco’s bid and will bring his expert knowledge of world football to the Morocco 2026 team.
A FIFA World Cup winner with Brazil in 2002, Carlos won the UEFA Champions League, La Liga, and the Supercopa de España, all on multiple occasions, during a glittering 11 year career at Real Madrid. His journey in football spanned multiple continents and saw him play for nine clubs across Spain, Italy, Brazil, India, Russia and Turkey.
Apart from the strong support of legendary Moroccan stars Mustapha Hadji, Mohamed Timoumi and Aziz Bouderbala, as well as charismatic Juventus defender Mehdi Benatia, Roberto Carlos becomes the latest international player to come out in support of Morocco 2026. He follows African legends Khalilou Fadiga, El Hadji Diouf, Joseph-Antoine Bell, Mazembe goal keeper Robert Kidiaba and Tunisian Adel Chedli, among others, who have expressed their backing.
Roberto Carlos said:
"I am strongly convinced that Morocco, the land of football, will celebrate the best of the game, offering the world an impeccable tournament full of authentic passion."
