Burundi Football President Ousted
FIFA Executive Committee member Lydia Nskerea has been defeated as president of the Burundian Football Association.
The IOC member lost to Reverien Ndikuriyo, 31 votes to 25, in what FIFA calls a "fair and transparent" election.
The election had been delayed since February due to infighting within the association.
Nskerea was first elected president of the Burundian FA in 2004, and is currently the only woman on FIFA’s Executive Committee. She will remain in that position until May 2017 despite the results of the Burundian Election.
Ndikuriyo is a senator in Burundi’s upper house in Parliament, and is best known for being a former rebel fighter and the former governor of Makamba.
He is also the president of the Burundian football team "Black Eagle" in the country’s second division.
Sailing Sets Rio Program
The program and qualification timeline for the Rio 2016 Olympics was set at the International Sailing Federation council meeting this week.
Two rest days were added before medal races to ensure that competition is completed before the medal races.
Men’s and Women’s 470, Laser, Laser Radial and Finn will have 10 qualification series races before their finals, while 49er, 49erFX and Nacra 17 classes will consist of a series of 12 qualification races.
The exact program for the men’s and women’s RS:X class will be determined after Olympic test events are completed in 2014-15.
50% of spots for the Olympics will be decided based off results from the 2014 ISAF World Championships, while the remaining spots will be allocated based on continental qualification in 2015-16.
The council also decided to adopt the same program for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo that they put forth in Rio.
