On the occasion of its 46th meeting, held in Sydney, Australia, the International Council of Arbitration for Sport (ICAS), the governing body of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), elected Ms Carole Malinvaud (France) as President of the CAS Ordinary Arbitration Division.
Ms Malinvaud is a partner in an international law firm in Paris, France, where she co-heads the international arbitration practice, Chair of the International Chamber of Commerce French international arbitration commission (ICC France), former chair of the Comité Français de l'Arbitrage. Ms Malinvaud is a specialist in international commercial law and international arbitration. She holds degrees from Paris II University and Harvard law School, and is a member of both the Paris and New York bars.
The CAS is composed of two divisions: the Ordinary Arbitration Division and the Appeals Arbitration Division. The Ordinary Division conducts arbitration procedures arising from commercial contracts linked to sport whereas the Appeals Division handles disputes arising from decisions taken by the internal bodies of sports organisations.
The position of President of the Ordinary Arbitration Division was previously held by Dr Nabil Elaraby (Egypt); a former Judge of the International Court of Justice in The Hague, former Foreign Minister of Egypt and former Secretary General of the League of Arab States. Dr Elaraby requested to step down from the role but remains a member of the ICAS.
Furthermore, the ICAS has amended some provisions of the Code of Sports-related Arbitration, as well
as the schedule of arbitration costs. The amended rules are published on the CAS website (www.tascas.org).
