(ATR) Rock Hill, South Carolina will host the 2017 International Cycling Union BMX World Championships.
The United States last hosted the BMX World Championships in 2001, and BMX was added to the Olympic Program for the 2008 Olympic Games.
"The return of the UCI BMX World Championships to the United States in 2017 will mark the first time these championships have been held on American home soil since BMX was added to the Olympic Games," USA Cycling president and CEO Steve Johnson said in a statement.
"The local organizing committee staff and community leaders have worked tirelessly to secure this bid, and we congratulate them on the success of their efforts."
The Novant Health BMX Supercross Track will serve as the championship’s venue. The track is scheduled to reopen later in 2014.
Over 3,000 amateurs and 300 professionals are expected to participate in the UCI event.
