Two European countries and one Central Asian country are all hoping to hear their name called as the next host of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Championship.
Germany, Norway and Kazakhstan have all been named as applicants to host in 2027 the IIHF said.
The European countries Germany and Norway have both hosted the IIHF World Championship before. Germany has actually hosted eight times since 1930. Cologne, Mannheim and Gelsenkirchen all hosted in 2010, while Cologne and Paris co-hosted in 2017.
Oslo, Lillehammer and Hamar were the venues in 1999, but Norway is looking at fresh host cities in 2027. The Norwegian Ice Hockey Association’s bid is likely to have Baerum, outside of Oslo, and Trondheim as host cities.

Kazakhstan has never played host or medaled at the IIHF World Championship, but Astana and Almaty both have the necessary arenas for the world’s best hockey players.
The 2023 edition was originally scheduled for St. Petersburg, Russia, but the IIHF stripped them of their hosting rights following the invasion of Ukraine. Tampere, Finland and Riga, Latvia will co-host the event May 12-28, 2023.
