The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) has banned Iskander Tursunbaev for three years for failing a drug test they said in a statement.
Tursunbaev, a Para powerlifter from Uzbekistan, tested positive for a banned substance in three of his urine samples which were collected in March, April and May 2021.
The substances Tursunbaev tested positive for were methasterone and its metabolites and Oxymetholone metabolite. All of the substances are included on the World Anti-Doping Agency 2021 Prohibited List.
“The athlete achieved unexpected results at the Manchester 2021 Para Powerlifting World Cup, a competition in which he was tested,” said James Sclater, the Anti-Doping Director for the IPC.
“Based on these results, he was immediately targeted for out-of-competition testing. Because of the IPC’s reactive and intelligence-based testing program, the athlete returned two additional adverse analytical findings.”
His banned will be retroactive to begin May 19, 2021 and will continue through May 18, 2024. Any points, medals, or other prizes will be disqualified.
