It’s the largest international multi-sport event from school students, and it’s happening all next week in Normandy, France.
The 19th International School Sport Federation (ISF) will host the ISF Gymnasiade Normany 2022 from May 14-22 in France.
The event will bring together 3,500 athletes from 63 countries to compete in 20 different sports.
“We are delighted to have this historic ISF event in Normandy, France, ahead of the Paris 2024 Olympics Games,” said ISF president Laurent Petrynka, who is also a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Olympic Education Commission.
“We have continued to work on developing ISF events, to bring the international stage to more school students from around the world, and allow them a chance to be a part of a once in a lifetime experience, all through school sport.”
With one eye on Paris in two years, the ISF looks to show school students and give them a taste of an international multi-sport event. The event in Normandy promises to be the largest in ISF history, and will incorporate dancesport/breaking, rugby sevens and the three para sports of athletics, judo and swimming for the first time. The ISF seeks to open more opportunities and welcome all youth to ISF events.
The opening ceremony will be May 15 in Deauville, France with all participating delegations walking through the city center, and carrying their national flags to Deauville Beach to begin the week of games and activities.
