UEFA bans Russian clubs and national team for all UEFA competitions “until further notice”

Russia’s bid to host Euro 2028 or Euro 2032 is also ruled ineligible

European football’s governing body UEFA announced Russian national and club teams have been banned from all UEFA competitions “until further notice.”

This means for the 2022-23 football season, there will be no clubs from Russia competing in the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, UEFA Europa Conference League, UEFA Women’s Champions League or UEFA Youth League.

In addition, Portugal will replace Russia in the Women’s Euro 2022 tournament this July.

The city of St. Petersburg, Russia was stripped of their hosting duties for this season’s Champions League final on May 28. Russia will also be ineligible to host the Euro 2028 or Euro 2032 tournament.

Russia has already been ruled out of this year’s FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Belarus did not qualify.
