Athletes from the Russian Olympic Committee won 32 medals in Beijing this past February, and now they are about to cash in.
According to a representative from the Russian Olympians Support Fund, all medal winning athletes from Beijing 2022 can expect to receive a very nice bonus for their efforts. Gold medal winners will receive four million rubles ($46,700), silver medalists will get two and a half million rubles ($29,100) while bronze medal winners will get 1.7 million rubles ($19,800).
“In light of the situation that has developed, the management of the fund has decided to replace cars with cash grants to the champions and prize-winners of the 2022 Winter Olympic Games in Beijing,” the Russian Olympians Support Fund said in a statement.

Russian athletes who gold medals in Tokyo 2020 received BMW X3 and X5 cars as a reward for their hard work, but the company no longer produces cars in Russia after the invasion of Ukraine.
Russian Olympic Committee president Alexander Zhukov said Beijing 2022 athletes will be “pleased to receive compensation instead.”
Perhaps they will put the money towards a down payment on a car.
