The Australian, 47, was nominated to be the captain of Australia’s men’s and women’s golf team at the Paris 2024 Olympics according to Golf Australia.
Her name will be then put forward to the Australian Olympic Committee for approval to replace former major winner Ian Baker-Finch who captained Australia in Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020.
“If the Aussies are playing well in the lead-up to Paris we will feel pretty good going in there, and that we have a good chance at a medal,” said Webb.
Aussie Cameron Smith, who just won the prestigious Players Championship two weeks ago, is ranked number six in the world, while on the women’s side Minjee Lee is currently ranked fourth.
Smith and Marc Leishman, who teamed together to win the 2021 Zurich Classic on the PGA Tour, represented Australia in Tokyo, while Lee and fellow major champion Hannah Green also competed in Tokyo last summer.
Golf returned to the Olympic program in 2016 after a 112-year absence. Australia has yet to win an Olympic medal in golf
