Lion is excited to announce XXXX as the official beer of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games (GC2018).
XXXX is no stranger to the Commonwealth Games, having previously been the official beer of the Brisbane games back in 1982.
Nearly 35 years later, XXXX continues to show its support for Queensland on the world stage.
Lion Marketing Director, Ben Slocombe, said XXXX is excited to support the largest event ever held in Queensland.
"We are really excited to be part of the Commonwealth Games for next year. The number one beer in the country gets to support this huge event and where better to do it than on the Gold Coast, Queensland. It has been 35 years since the Brisbane games and XXXX can’t wait for next April so we can help Aussies TAKE IN THE GOLD while they cheer for the Australian teams."
Member for Murrumba, Chris Whiting, representing Commonwealth Games Minister Kate Jones, welcomed Lion into the Games Family.
"It’s great to have a Queensland icon supporting the Games. The XXXX brand has a long and proud history across this State. I know many Queenslanders love a XXXX GOLD and I’m pleased to welcome Lion to the GC2018 Sponsor Family. Lion has a well-deserved reputation for corporate responsibility through their ongoing support of major events and sporting clubs. It’s terrific to have them on board for the Games."
Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Corporation (GOLDOC), Chairman Peter Beattie AC said as the official beer and cider of the Games, brands from across the XXXX family, including Summer Bright Lager, will be activated in venue and at various festival zones throughout the Gold Coast and event cities.
"The Games are more than just 11 days of world class sport. Outside of competition there are a number of ways to enjoy the Games experience including Festival 2018 and the associated arts and culture festival. XXXX will bring the GOLD to the Gold Coast."
GOLDOC CEO, Mark Peters welcomed XXXX’s ongoing support for the Commonwealth Games.
"Queenslanders celebrated the Brisbane 1982 GOLD rush from Coolangatta to Cook Town and nearly 35 years later it is great to welcome one of Queensland’s most well-known brands into the GC2018 Sponsor Family.
Commonwealth Games Australia CEO Craig Phillips said Lion’s partnership with GC2018 would include the Australian Team.
"We are delighted to have Lion and XXXX on board with the Australian Commonwealth Games Team.
"While our athletes are focused on performance, it is the atmosphere and the celebration that surrounds a home Commonwealth Games that makes it extra special for all involved and I’m sure XXXX will play a big part in that by allowing Aussie fans to take in the Gold responsibly."
