Bombardier Transportation will provide high speed rail service to fans and competitors at the IAAF world athletics championships in Berlin this month thanks to an agreement between the global rail technology giant and the athletics federation.
The agreement makes Bombardier a National Supplier to the world athletics championships, which will be held in Berlin Aug. 15-23.
“Bombardier Transportation connects people, cities and countries across all borders – just as the international world championships’ athletes will excite people around the world, ” said Sharon Christians, Bombardier vice president of communications and public affairs in a statement.
Said Laurens Lipperheide, the marketing director for the world championships’ organizing committee, “This partnership underlines the international significance of the world championships in and for Berlin once more. Jointly, we can demonstrate that Berlin is ‘the place to be’ – not only for sports.”
UK Sport Commercial Partnerships Manager
UK Sport took its first step towards assuming a more active role in developing sponsorship initiatives for the 2012 Summer Olympics as it named Tom Halsey as its first commercial partnerships manager.
Halsey is a veteran of 11 years in the sports sponsorship industry and was most recently the head of sponsorship for Wembley Stadium. He will be responsible for the development of Team 2012 as well as the sponsorship strategy for UK Sport before and after the 2012 Olympics.
The new position was formed to lead UK Sport’s commercial activity for the 2012 Games, including the formation of the Team 2012 Commercial Sponsorship initiative for both Olympic and Paralympic sports.

Jamaica Bobsledding Picks Ludus Tours
The Jamaica Bobsleigh Federation has selected Ludus Tours as its official tour operator for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.
Ludus will create tour and hotel packages and will organize a Jamaican Bobsleigh house in Vancouver for Jamaican fans to cheer the team at the 2010 Games.
“The Jamaican Bobsleigh Federation is delighted to be working with Ludus Tours,” Jamaican Bobsleigh Federation secretary general N. Christian Stokes said in a statement. “We are eager for a new generation to love the cool runnings of our fine team and all bobsleigh and Winter Olympic sporting events.
Ludus is also the official tour operator of the U.S. Bobsled and Skeleton team as well as U.S. Speed Skating and USA Luge.
