(ATR) Punk legends the Sex Pistols refused to play at the opening ceremony for the 2012 London Olympics after LOCOG reportedly attempted to invite drummer Keith Moon, of The Who, to perform. Moon passed away in 1978.
Former bassist of the Sex Pistols Glen Matlock explained the reason behind the band's decision to London's TheDaily Mirror on Monday.
"I heard that they wanted The Who to do it, they wanted Keith Moon to perform," Matlock told Daily Mirror. "They had asked us to perform but the story about Keith Moon and The Who didn't help their pitch to us.
"That was one of the reasons we said no."
Moon died from an overdose of prescription drugsat the age of 32.
Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend of The Who performed "My Generation" at the closing ceremony for the London Games. The Sex Pistols' "God Save the Queen" was included in a medley during the ceremony.
