(PACIFIC GAMES OFFICE); The most recent tabulation of
participants in the Samoa 2019 XVI Pacific Games reports that
over 5,000 athletes and team officials will be participating in Samoa
over the next two weeks, making this the biggest Games ever.
This was confirmed by Andrew Minogue, Chief Executive Officer of
the Pacific Games Council.
The Samoa 2019 XVI Pacific Games is staging 27 sports and
hosting athletes from 24 countries. This year’s participant numbers
are the highest for the Games to date. In the 2007 Games, the last
time Samoa hosted the Games, 4,490 athletes and officials
participated in 33 sports, six (6) less sports than 2019.
According to Mr Minogue, the Samoa 2019 XVI Pacific Games
beats all previous Games participant records. The previous record
holder was New Caledonia in 2011, with a total of 4,899.
The Opening Ceremony for the Samoa 2019 XVI Pacific Games
will start at 6.30pm (local time), Sunday 7 July.
The Pacific Games Office continues to be the key focal point for all
