Around the Rings will be on the scene in London this week at the World Press Briefing, the best chance for reporters to gauge the lay of the land ahead of next year’s Games.
The four-day meeting is more about logistics and planning than anything else, but ATR will do its best to catch up with Olympic movers and shakers while in the 2012 host city.
Pan Am Games
Bowling, canoeing, diving, fencing judo, karate, roller skating and volleyball kick off this week at the Pan American Games in Guadalajara.
Competition comes to a close Sunday with final events in athletics, basketball and rugby sevens followed by the closing ceremony that night.

Thursday marks 1,000 days until the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.
UIPM Champion of Champions
Modern pentathlon is putting $70,000 up for grabs at the Champion of Champions event in Sicily, Italy.
The sport’s top 18 men and women from the past few years will compete for the title "Champion of Champions" on Saturday and Sunday.
World Judo Day
Friday is the first annual World Judo Day.
The occasion marks both the birthday of the sport’s founder, Jigoro Kano, as well as the opening of the 2011 world championship in Tyumen, Russia.
The International Judo Federation will organize events all over the world to commemorate the special day.
