(ATR) Organisers of Wednesday’s Laureus World Sports Awards in Kuala Lumpur are scaling back activities following confirmation that the missing Malaysia Airlines flight went down in the Indian Ocean.
Some events have either been cancelled or postponed in the aftermath of the tragedy. Tomorrow’s annual awards take place at the Istana Budaya.
"With the Laureus World Sports Awards in Kuala Lumpur this year, we feel particularly close to the Malaysian people at this time which makes what has happened even more personal and distressing," Laureus World Sports Academy chairman Edwin Moses said in a statement.
"I would like to share our sadness at this latest news and pray for the passengers and crew, and their families of this awful accident which has touched so many people in so many different countries of the world.
"We feel the appropriate action at this time is to scale down some of our activities over the next two days."
Moses said Laureus was dedicating today’s All Stars Unity Cup, an exhibition football match featuring footballing legends, to the families and loved ones of the victims of MH370.
Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak said on Monday night that the airline with 227 passengers and 12 crew on board had crashed into southern Indian Ocean based on new analysis of satellite data.
