(ATR) Debbie Jevans brings her experience of delivering successful competitions at the London Olympics and Paralympics to the Rugby World Cup job.
The London 2012 director of sport won many admirers for her work on LOCOG’s venues plan and sports program; she effectively co-ordinated the equivalent of 26 world championships in a fortnight.
She was also pivotal to driving innovations in the fan experience at the Games.
Jevans was appointed to the top RWC role in September. Among the tasks ahead are finalizing the venues and match schedule, and ticketing programme development.
A former tennis player who reached the fourth round at Wimbledon in 1979, she went on to work for the International Tennis Federation and helped return the sport to the Olympic program for the 1988 Games. She later became general secretary of the ITF before joining London’s Olympic bid.
One of Jevans’ London 2012 colleagues has joined her at England Rugby 2015. Joanna Manning-Cooper, LOCOG’s former head of PR and media, was appointed as the tournament’s communications and marketing director in January.
