The organisers of the Erzurum 2017 Winter Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF) have earned the praise of European Olympic Committees (EOC) Secretary General Raffaele Pagnozzi for the high-standard of the event’s venues and infrastructure.
Over the first three days of the 13th Winter EYOF, Pagnozzi has visited multiple competition venues, the Athletes’ Village, and the Medal Plaza. Pagnozzi was accompanied on his visits by three of his fellow EOC Executive Committee members: Niels Nygaard, President of the National Olympic Committee and Sports Confederation of Denmark, Hasan Arat, Vice-President of the Turkish Olympic Committee, and Alexander Koslovsky.
Speaking after visiting the Athlete’s Village, EOC Secretary General Pagnozzi commented:
"The standard of this Village is worthy of a winter Olympic Games. I am deeply impressed with how our Turkish friends have been able to put everything in place to such high standards in such a short time. The Turkish NOC, the Local Organising Committee and the Turkish Government have made every possible effort to ensure perfect competition conditions for the young athletes of Europe."
Erzurum was originally scheduled to host the Winter EYOF in 2019 but in 2015 the city agreed to host the event two years earlier, allowing Sarajevo and East Sarajevo to prepare for hosting the event in 2019 instead.
Coverage of Erzurum 2017 is being broadcast daily via the Olympic Channel on its digital platform olympicchannel.com and its mobile apps for Android and iOS devices.
